A case for an unconventional graphic design trading model
Fierra Dynamics
Part of our diagnostic process at Flux includes hearing about business plans for new and start-up businesses. Occasionally we hear about a business concept so strong and unique we are compelled to collaborate with the founder using an unconventional trading model. Fierra Dynamics is one such case.
Fierra Dynamics is company based in Adelaide, Australia focused on creating intelligent consumer products that incorporate highly innovative, dynamic, intelligent systems technology. That’s quite a mouthful, but basically the company exists to create really smart consumer products that are not yet on the market.
Flux was approached by the founder to help develop a corporate identity, but the start-up had virtually no cash or assets. Because of the strength of Fierra’s first product concept, we agreed to exchange our branding services for a small share in the fledgling company.
In this way we were essentially trading our knowledge, experience and the intellectual property contained within our and graphic design services—at well below cost price—for a share in the company’s future earnings.
In addition to this, we have established a long-term relationship with a client that is based on mutual respect and an admiration for our contrasting skills.
