After years of using photography of people along the coast, the City of Holdfast Bay wanted to refresh their publication design and take a different approach. In addition, the Strategic Plan includes five ‘pillars’, which needed to be distinctive within the publication, but also tie together as a whole.
Here at Flux, we love any opportunity to get creative! We began by conducting in-depth research of the Holdfast Bay area and history. We discovered a recent landscaping project along the coast which reintroduced indigenous coastal plants, and used this as the basis for our creative exploration. We also looked at the topography of the council area and developed topographical sketches.
Once we had lined the walls of the studio with sketches, paintings, drawings and watercolours of the relevant plant species, we brought it all together into a vibrant and colourful design. Each ‘pillar’ was kept unique and distinct by incorporating a different medium and style. The topographical sketches were used as an overarching design element, which helped to tie this artistic and creative publication together as a whole.
We believe small communities are hugely important, so we love developing powerful marketing communications tools—logos (identity), websites, brochures, packaging and sign designs—for schools, councils, government departments, festivals and events.
